I am an Associate Professor in the Department of International Affairs at Texas A&M University's Bush School of Government and Public Service. I am also a visiting scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School's Project on Managing the Atom and a fellow at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy.
My research area includes the politics of ideology and domestic sources of international security. My book, Religious Statecraft: The Politics of Islam in Iran (Columbia University Press, 2018), is a micro-level study of the linkage between elite competition and ideological construction in Iran. I am currently working on a book project on Iran's nuclear politics. I hold a PhD from Georgetown University, an MA from the University of Chicago, an MA from the New School for Social Research, and a BA from the University of Tehran.
