I am an Associate Professor in the Department of International Affairs at Texas A&M University's Bush School of Government and Public Service. I am also a visiting scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School's Project on Managing the Atom and a fellow at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy.

My research area includes international security and Middle East politics. My book, Religious Statecraft: The Politics of Islam in Iran (Columbia University Press, 2018), is a micro-level study of the linkage between elite competition and ideological construction in Iran. I am currently working on a book project on Iran's nuclear politics.

I hold a PhD in Government from Georgetown University, an MA in international relations from the University of Chicago, and a BA in social sciences from the University of Tehran.
